Google’s expansive software and app ecosystem has finally reached the “track-your-phone” domain with their Android Device Manager. While there have been 3rd party options floating around for quite some time, Google’s unified approach to the misplaced smartphone problem is unique in that it requires no app installation on the device side of things.
Now, Google’s ADM should be enabled ad ready to go on your device, but there are a few things you can do to optimize your experience. In addition to locating your Samsung Galaxy device, ADM can perform a remote factory reset in the situation where sensitive data may be lost in the wrong hands.
As you can see in the screen shot above, although ADM has automatically connected to my device, I still need to active the “Lock and Erase” options. To do so on the Galaxy S4, go to Menu > Settings > More > Security > scroll down and select Device administrators and tick the box for Android Device Manager.
Now you can have peace of mind with the security features enabled with Google’s Android Device Manager on your Galaxy S4. Let us know if you have any stories about losing your phone and how this has or could help!
