The Galaxy S II has been the premier Android phone for the better part of a year now, and there is just one last thing that would help it’s reign last well into 2012. That thing being a hearty serving of Ice Cream Sandwich.
In case you can’t read Hangul (Korean), that is an official announcement from Korean carrier SK Telecom, stating that they are planing to distribute the Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich update to Galaxy S II owners starting tomorrow at 10AM local time. It’s no surprise that we are seeing the hometown crowd get dibs on the first bite of ICS, but it was a tad peculiar how the tweet was removed not too long after. This could indicate that Samsung wanted to announce this huge development themselves or… there might be issues with the update that are preventing it from being seaworthy.
Announcement subtleties aside, this announcement proves that a final build version is out there, which means its only a matter of time before we will see it packaged up and distributed as a custom ROM. To stay up to date with the official launch we recommend closely following Samsung Mobile’s Twitter account.
