Back in October we got our first glimpse of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in Hong Kong at Samsung and Google’s launch event. Just about everyone noticed the three gold connection points and we began patiently waited for the Nexus’ accompanying dock.
The Galaxy Nexus mates with this dock via the 3 gold pogo pins
Fast forward to today–Samsung has made the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Pogo Pin Desktop Dock available in their web store. The dock’s key feature is its ability to quickly connect and disconnect the phone for charging via the 3 gold “pogo pins.” These little pins are spring loaded (like pogo sticks) and make a solid connection with the Galaxy Nexus without having to fumble around with cords or small charging ports. Another great benefit is that this interface has a low impact on the device longevity–one of the highest points of failure is often the charging port connection due to wear and tear.
As you can see from the dock’s rear view, it features a micro USB port for connecting a power source, and also feature 3.5mm audio out. Although a video signal is not carried over the pogo pin connection, you can still use a MHL connection to output video while in the dock. The official Samsung Desktop Dock for the Galaxy Nexus will set you back $89.99, but is currently listed as out of stock. Do you guys like the idea of the pogo pin interface; is it useful?
