After months of speculation and all of the recent Galaxy S II hullabaloo, Alaskan provider GCI has emerged as the dark horse candidate to win the title of America’s first carrier to offer the Samsung Galaxy S II.

Most of the recent discussion about the release has put Sprint at the forefront of the race to the U.S. release with their Epic 4G touch but Alaska’s CGI has surprised all of the Android world as well as the big Four by releasing the GS2 first and at the spectacularly low price of $99.99—a full hundred bucks less than what was expected.

Now that the Galaxy S II has finally touched down in the far northwest, we can expect to see this year’s hottest Android device to sweep across the nation in no time. We will keep you up to date with continued releases so make sure to stay tuned!
