How to: Auto Call Rejection on Samsung Android Devices

Posted on Mar 25 2011 - 10:02am by Brian

Tired of getting calls from telemarketers, phone surveys, and pesky debt collectors? If you have a Samsung Android phone, you’re are in luck! Here is a neat feature that allows you to avoid the nuisance: Auto Reject. This feature automatically filters incoming calls so that calls from non-contacts will not be connected, and you will not be alerted of the missed call.

Here are the steps to activate this feature:

1. Goto Settings -> Call Settings

2. Go from Call Settings -> All Calls and select Auto Reject

3. Enable Auto Reject and then select the Auto Reject List

4. From here you can create a set of blacklisted numbers using the menu button. The list of numbers will be saved and you can toggle when they are blocked.

We tested this feature on the Samsung Galaxy S, and it should work for all owners with 2.2 or later firmware. We also took a look at the Google Nexus One running Android 2.3 firmware but it lacked this feature. Remember to promptly save your new contact information; you don’t want your potential employer’s interview call being rejected. It should also be noted that while phone calls will be screened, text messages will still go through.

Here is a video demonstration of the feature in action:

Placing calls on Auto Reject list by pressing on the number in under phone. Add to AR list but the calls still come through. This has worked just fine in the past. Do the numbers have to be in your contacts for this to work?

On my old Samsung Nexus, the feature was “Send straight to voicemail”. This is an old post but just got the new Samsung Grand Prime and its a tad bit diffetent. Using just the built-in feature, NOT a 3rd party app, this is how you do it.

    On a Samsung Grand Prime:
    1. Go to Settings>Applications>Phone>Call Settings>Call Rejection ~OR~ Contacts>Person you want to block>More>Add to Block list

    Once the person is added:
Your phone will NOT ring if they call
Person WILL appear in log as a “rejected call”
Person WILL be able to leave a voice mail
Person WILL be able to send texts like normal
