While checking the news this morning a Korean site, ET News, posted this picture along with some specifications calling it the Galaxy S2. The internal code name of the device is “??” which directly translates to “Senreu”. “Senreu” doesn’t really have an English meaning or translation, but one of our native Korean speakers is working on finding out so stay tuned for that.
The specs of the device are definitely next gen and include:
- 4.3″ Super AMOLED Plus screen
- NFC chip
- Android 2.3 Gingerbread
- Dual Core processor (no word yet on if it is Tegra or not)
Now rumors of this device (and that exact picture) started swirling around at the beginning of last summer on a couple russian sites. The blogosphere picked up and reported on it across the board with the following features:
- 4.3″ Super AMOLED 2 screen
- 1280 x 720 resolution
- 2 GHz processor
- 1GB RAM
- 4GB ROM
- 32GB of internal memory plus microSD slot
- 8MP camera
- and all the other usual bells and whistles
Back then all of these specs seemed very hopeful and many claimed it was a false story since it originated from a Russian Samsung Phone Club. Today only a few of these features seem far fetched with all the recent technological announcements at CES 2011. In this case its the screen resolution and RAM/ROM limits that seem unlikely. More than likely the RAM/ROM is possible but a 1280×720 resolution on a 4.3″ screen is definitely something that is teetering on the edge.
Back then it was also rumored for this device to leak at MWC 2011 at an estimated price of $800. So where does that leave us? Well since the picture is a render we’re sure its changed since then, but take a look at that render next to the Samsung Infuse (recently announced at CES).
Now the infuse is a little more rounded than the Galaxy S2 render, but they do have pretty similar dimension with the Infuse rocking a 4.5″ screen. The infuse also has the 8MP 720p camera in back and is likely to have 1GB of RAM. While it doesn’t have the exact specs, its pretty close and it could indeed end up being the Galaxy S2‘s little brother which would make sense because the article mentioned earlier also goes on to make the following (sales) predictions:
- 10 million sales worldwide of the Galaxy S2
- Have the device on over 100 carriers globally
- Sell 60 million smartphones in 2011
That sounds very similar to what they accomplished last year and if indeed their Galaxy S2 will feature the specs above then it shouldn’t be too hard to manage. Although they will HAVE to release a device on the cutting edge of specifications with all the other monster devices announced so far. And staying more on top of Android updates couldn’t hurt either.
What do you think? Is this the device they will release? Will the Galaxy S2 have any or all of those specs above? Let us know your thoughts below.
