Posted on Jul 26 2010 - 2:50pm by Hansoo

Samsung Galaxy S has the strongest video/Audio player among smartphones there now. It can play most of popular files,  avi, xvid, divx and even mkv without converting which is way convenient compared to idevices(iPhone, iPod, or iPad) for enjoying multimedia.

Here is the information which codec Samsung Galaxy S can play or not.

Playable Codec

  • AVI(Audio Video Interleave) is not a codec, but a multimedia container format which can contain almost any codec. So that we might not say it support all the AVI files but  it can parse the AVI container and play most of popular variation.
  • AVI files with Xvid
  • H.264/AVC video stream(with CABAC)
  • MP3
  • AC-3 audio stream
  • MP4 container files with MPEG-4 video streams
  • AAC audio streams

Unplayable codecs

  • MPEG-2 video streams
  • WMA
  • LPCM(uncompressed) audio streams

Best way to use

Try to connect the phone to the computer, mount Micro SD card, and massive internal memory(16GB), and copy the movie directly on either storage. The movie(s) will play flawlessly from there.

Make sure if your device is USB debug mode when you connect to PC.(8. Using the massive phone storage as a thumb drive.)

If you need a free file converter, try this: Convert Video with Any Video Converter for Omnia

Using this online application is ok.

No matter what kind of format, just convert it to common format, like .mp3, .wav, .ogg, eic.
